Does anyone know if newer (i.e. 2007) Montauks can handle a kicker? I read some postings that suggested that the 2002 model could not have one because of lack of added support in the starboard transom section. Apparently someone had contacted BW and they confirmed this model could not have a kicker because of this lack of support. I looked at the diagram of supporting structures that came with my 2007 Montauk and it appeared that there was supporting plywood in the starboard transom section. Interestingly, the date on the diagram was 2002. I was wondering if BW had modified the design since 2002. I am aware that there may also be a weight limitation. However, the boat is designed to have two aft seats. An adult in the starboard aft seat would most likely weigh more that most kickers.

Here's a post from a while back discussing the same topic:

Tom W Clark says:

We do know which MT170 hull had the very first plywood reinforcement for a kicker motor. It is hull number BWCE0479G203 which was manufactured on July 12, 2002 and is owned by Rodger Teed of Vancouver, WA.

If you search around you will find many more discussions on this topic.

Check the wood locating diagram from Boston Whalers's website.

You should be able to tell if there is backing.

This looks like the same diagram that came with my boat. From this diagram, it looks to me like there is 1 and 3/4" plywood backing at the starboard transom.

If you look at the revision date (top right corner) of this drawing, you will see that the wood for the kicker motor was added on 7/12/02 and is named revision "B". All Montauk models after this date will have the wood located there.

Meanwhile they have made several modifications to the wood location on the 170 Montauk as we now see that the latest revision is "H"

Just compare this drawing with the one that CBO made the link to.

Man, I wish I had that same wood in my 2003 model, 170 Montauk.
