MISCHIEF 15: Battery Hold Down

Postby Churchalla » Thu Jul 23, 2026 12:35 pm

Q1: how can the battery on a 1989 MISCHIEF 15 be accessed in order to thread hold down straps?

Q2: is there a special method to re-thread the battery strap that holds down the battery?

BACKSTORY
My family owns a 1989 MISCHIEF 15. The boat battery is located in the stern compartment. It is positioned aft of the fuel tank and it is rather far back. The access holes in the stern seat are not sufficiently large to get a hand far enough into the compartment to properly re-strap the battery.

ASIDE
To find others who own a MISCHIEF and get advice from them is hard.

By collecting all your posts about how to re-install battery hold down straps on a 1989 MISCHIEF 15 into this thread, this thread will become the thread most focused on the topic of re-installing battery hold down straps on a MISCHIEF 15 and thus will be very likely be located in the future if anyone searches for information on how to re-install battery hold down straps on a MISCHIEF 15.]

If the only possible way to reach the battery is via the method you are trying to use, and the battery is aft of the fuel tank, then the only reasonable conclusion is the battery must have been put in place before the fuel tank. With that foundation, you would need to move the fuel tank out of the way to get to the battery.
