I searched but could not find the angle of deadrise for my [1983 Boston Whaler OUTRAGE 22] hull. I need this information to properly place the bunk boards on my cradle lift as the support brackets for the cradle require me to install perpendicular to the hull. Thanks!

MOJACK get an inexpensive carpenters Bevel Square.
Lay it against your deadrise and transcribe it to your cradle. The "std" bevel square can be gad for <$6.00

I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

Measure the angle the "V" in your hull creates...probably somewhere around 140 degrees. Subtract from 180 and divide the result in half.

It's 16 degrees, which doesn't sound like much, but the angle gets progressively sharper as you approach the bow, effectively allowing the hull to act like it has a more aggresive deadrise while maintaining the side to side stability we all love

Use your iPhone

If you have a Level App, just hold it on each side of the hull. Average the results .

The boat need not be laterally level for this technique to be accurate. The only thing you must do is hold the phone on edge perpendicular to the keel, NOT flush with the transom.

Thanks so much guys. I guess my "search" skills are not very good.... all info much appreciated. I have to see if there's a "level app" for my droid :-)

You might not need to find and install a level app. Many smartphones already have a level out-of-the-box. For example, a level is part of the Compass app on iPhone (iOS 7+).

MOJACK--Yes, there are many level apps for your Android operated type phone and yes that will give you a degree indication which you then have to transcribe onto your cradle [unclear, possibly meant "before] cutting. I recommend you forget all this modern technology and go with the aforementioned carpenter's bevel square or make one with two longer straight edges connected with a bolt and thumb screw.

I have used my phone "bevel" app but from experience I can tell you, use your boat as a sample and transcribe that to the point you need on your cradle with a bevel square, as your dead rise changes depending on where you seek support along your chine and boat length.

The carpenter's bevel worked great! I made a "jig" from it with the proper angle and was able to adjust the bunk board brackets in short order. Thanks!
