Good-day. I am finishing up the hull restoration on a 13-foot classic and now turn my attention to the interior. The boat originally came with [a console], but all parts are long gone. I have collected all steering components for the wire rope setup, except one area I have a question about. Where the wire rope exits the [console] on the starboard side, they make a 90-degree bend to go rearward. I do not believe there is room for pulleys like the ones on the transom. What type of pulley or slide works there? I have not seen any pictures of the starboard side of the [console] in that area. A couple of images and a supplier of what needed would be great. Cheers--Ken.

The owner's manual may have some guidance:

The sheaves that turn the two steering ropes 90-degrees at the helm are mentioned in this thread:

http://continuouswave.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/019209.html

They are shown in a linked page at

These sheaves are designed to mount into slots in the side of the helm riser on the Starboard gunwale side of the boat. It is bit hard to see them in the image above, but they are in the bottom center of the frame. The linked thread also has some good advice.

Check out this site http://www.btmco.com/ They are manufacturers of raceboat hardware. Now click on steering systems, and scroll down to 90 degree coaming pulleys. You will see the red colored pulleys, but they come in natural polished aluminum too. $36 pair but when I bought mine back in '08 you could buy only one. Check that out. It is a classy addition to a 13' Whaler.

I have a set of these pulleys for a wooden console taken from a 1963 13-foot Boston Whaler. They are original equipment and have the patina you'd expect from a 50-year-old item. But they are in perfect working order. [If these are for-sale, contact the interested party via email--jimh]
